Women's Flat Track Roller Derby on the Panhandle of Florida.
PANHANDLE UNITED ROLLER DERBY
Each month our team nominates and votes on who they believe is their "Brawler of the Month!" This month our BOTM is PanU Trainer/Jammer Riveter Rosie!
What is your derby name and number?
Riveter Rosie 316
Please explain the inspiration and story behind your derby name.
Rosie the Riveter has always been a huge inspiration to me.
What is your position of choice?
How long have you been with the league?
since June 2015, but I've been playing since 2012
What is your skate gear of choice?
Mota, all things Mota!
What is your motivational quote?
"whether you think you can or think you can't you're right " Henry Ford
Do you have your own derby theme song?
Maybe eye of the tiger lol
Do you have a pre-bout ritual?
Eat, I need to eat all the food!
What is your pre-derby sports/skating background?
I grew up playing a lot of sports, basketball which I was horrible at. Softball, but didn't do to well there either. Finally track , that was my happy place. Running as fast as I could. That has transitioned really well into derby. I also grew up roller blading all the time.
How did you get involved with roller derby?
My old hair dresser told me about a team starting up when I lived in Arizona. I had a friend, Snot Face, who played on Team United in Des Moines and she helped me get all of the gear I needed.
Do you have any derby heroes?
Motamatrix hands down is my all time favorite. But I also really look up to the greats like luz chaos, suzy hotrod, scald, lick her, Akers, and Crowe, her jamming is insane.
Can you share with us your biggest accomplishments on the track and off the track?
On the track would be that I'm super confident when I'm jamming! I go outside of my comfort zone to do well for my team. Whatever my team needs me to do I want to do.
Off the track my biggest accomplishment is my marriage. My husband and I have a wonderful marriage. He's my rock. We support each other, love each other and encourage hobbies outside of our marriage and to do on our own. This keeps it exciting and always gives us new things to talk about and experience.
What are your hobbies?
Derby is my hobby... but also coffee drinking
What is your job outside of derby?
CEO of my household and soon to be full time student
Do you have a special message that you would like to give?
Thank you to Rezza Wrecked Her! She was my first derby coach. I am inspired by her strength and every practice I coach I think, "how would rezza do this." She is still a huge part of my derby career. I love her dearly.
Is there anyone you would like to THANK?
Yes! 1 st thank you to my husband and my kids. You support me, love me and are my biggest fans. I really couldn't do this without them. 2nd, my sponsor, Cafe Liquid. Your financial support and encouragement for me and my team is greatly appreciated! Last but not least, my talented badass team!!! We've been working so hard. Thank you all so much for trusting my coaching, my strategy and my ideas! It means everything to me that you all support me. You are all my family and I love you with all my heart!
